Christmas in the Eye of MC

They tell us that Christmas is the season to be jolly. It is a time of
ornaments, red and green decorations, silver bells, lanterns, mistletoe and
colored lights. It is also a time of a department store Santas calling out
their universal mantra, “ho ho ho, Merry Christmas!” Nearly all of the
realm of the so-calles “Christianity” join in and repeat this same
greeting, “Merry Christmas!”

From a child’s viewpoint, Christmas is all about receiving gifts. They
usually visit their ninongs and ninangs, pay their respects, and then at
the end of the day they have spmething to unwrap during Christmas day. And
they are also eager to go home after the Misa De Gallo, knowing that Santa
has left a surprise for them under the Christmas tree.

On the other hand, for busy people – e.g. working professionals and college
students like me, Christmas is about having a break. It’s a time to take a
breather from the busy schedules, tedious works, meeting deadlines, or
having to deal with cranky bosses of professors. Christmas lets us think
things over, relax a bit, and catch up with everything that we may have
missed during the hectic days.

Although we have observed Christmas for like, millions of times already,
almost nobody understands what they are really celebrating. It is the
purpose of this tract to take the words, “Merry Christmas” and examine the
true meaning and essence of those words.

I believe that the true essence of Christmas is about loving each other.
It’s about realizing other people’s worth and thanking them for what
they’ve contributed to our lives. It’s a time to make up with your enemies,
cherish your friends, express your feelings to the people who means so much
to you, and to spend time together.

Christmas is also about sharing. It’s a time to share your blessings with
everyone, especially with those who are less fortunate. Don’t have money or
things to give out to those who are in need? Its not just about giving
material presents. You can just whisper a short but meaningful prayer for
them. Though intangible, I believe you have already given them a gift
because God hears the prayers of those who are sincere. Yes, it sounds so
cliché but it is true.

Lastly, Christmas is about celebrating Jesus’ birth. It’s a time to thank
God for sending His only Son for the salvation of our souls. It’s also the
time to remember Jesus’ teachings, hark back to and observe His caring
gestures, and to learn by heat how much He loves us.

“I will be able to hold Christmas gifts in my hands, but not in my heart.
But I can hold Jesus Christ’s teachings in my heart, and they will bring
real and lasting happiness.”
